St John Passion – by JS Bach
Performed in the original German with a small orchestra of players from the Brandenburg Sinfonia at St Mark’s Church, the Allegri Singers were conducted by Stephen Anthony Brown, who also sang the part of the Evangelist. The part of Jesus was sung by baritone Jon Stainsby. We were also delighted to welcome soprano Chloe Morgan, mezzo Cathy Bell and tenor Gareth Edmunds. Other solo parts were sung by members of the choir.

Love & Remembrance
Part one of a collaboration between the Rosenau Sinfonia and The Allegri Singers at St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden. Included JS Bach’s ‘Brandenburg Concerto No. 3’, Vaughan Williams ‘The Lark Ascending’, Berlioz ‘Les nuits d’été’ and an exciting new work by Timothy Hamilton – his “Requiem”. The Requiem was commissioned to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War and we are delighted to be among the first amateur choirs performing it. Soloists: Zita Syme (soprano), Kate Warshaw (mezzo), Greg Tassell (tenor), James Oldfield (baritone) and violinist Mardiah Tucker, the leader of the Rosenau Sinfonia.

Beyond the Stage
This concert will feature music written by composers normally associated with the world of opera. including the very unusual setting of the Stabat Mater of 1590 by Palestrina as adapted by Wagner in 1848. Another unusual and rarely performed item will by Wagner’s homage to his hero Weber, An Webers Grabe.

Monteverdi Vespers
This seminal work from 1610 was performed with original instruments, fittingly in the 450th year of Monteverdi’s birth. The Allegri Singers were joined by tenors Greg Tassell and Gareth Edmunds, sopranos Eloise Irving and Chloe Morgan, and The Queen’s Players early music ensemble with Adrian Woodward.

Holst Rig Veda and Brahms’ Liebeslieder
A delightful evening at our home venue, St. Mark’s, Westmoreland Road, Bromley where we performed a concert centred around Holst’s Rig Veda, with harp accompaniment, and those lilting Liebeslieder-Walzer (‘Love song waltzes’) by Johannes Brahms, with piano four hand accompaniment. The Holst item was for upper voices only, so the men took their turn with Britten’s Ballad of Little Musgrave and Lady Barnard, while the full choir performed Britten’s Choral Dances from Gloriana. Call to Remembrance
Featuring a number of contrasting motets suitable for honouring and remembering the dead, including Victoria’s ‘Office for the Dead’ and Poulenc’s ‘Motets for a time of penitence’, some less-well-known works, together with an old favourite, Bach’s ‘Jesu meine Freude’. We will also include Nystedt’s hauntingly interesting and innovative setting of the Bach chorale ‘Komm süßer Tod’.

Eternal Light
Howard Goodall was born in Bromley in 1958, and his setting, Eternal Light: A Requiem, was commissioned by London Musici to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The version of the Brahms Requiem is the one he made himself made for two pianos. Soloists: Soraya Mafi (soprano), Greg Tassell (tenor) and Marc Callahan (baritone).
